Funds raised through special events and year-round giving support its mission to advance medical research and raise awareness through education. Through the donor-restricted patient aid fund, Ron’s Rescue, financial assistance is granted to pancreatic cancer patients in need.
The Foundation’s keystone fundraiser is a Kentucky Derby day gala, Ron’s Run for the Roses, where guests dress up in their finest Derby attire to spend an afternoon enjoying southern-style food, mint juleps, live and silent auctions, and Dixieland jazz to honor the memory of Ron Foley and the endeavors of the foundation bearing his name.
Barbara Foley, Ron’s widow, established the Foundation in 2009 at the urging of her family and friends who attended the very first celebration in Barbara’s backyard.
Now hosted at Folly Farm in Simsbury, CT every first Saturday in May, the event was voted Best Charity Event by readers of Hartford Magazine and West Hartford Media and continues to grow. The 10th Annual Ron’s Run for the Roses on May 5, 2018 raised over $300,000.
